How to Unlock Roaming Legendary Birds in Kanto (Confirmed by Staff)
Hey Trainers,
There’s been a lot of confusion lately about how to unlock the roaming legendary birds in Kanto—Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. Some forum posts mention needing to complete the Sevii Islands quest chain, while others say it’s just about the badges. I reached out directly to PokeMMO staff for clarification, and here’s the official answer from Hyper:
Quote:You unlock the ability to encounter the roaming legends when you beat the 8th gym (Kanto) or when you beat the Ho-oh boss fight (Johto).
✅ Requirements Recap:
- Kanto Region: Defeat the 8th Gym Leader (Viridian Gym).
- Johto Region (alternative unlock): Defeat the Ho-oh boss fight.
Once you’ve completed either of these, roaming legendary encounters will be enabled for your character. No Sevii Islands quest chain is required for this unlock.
Tips for Tracking/Catching:
- Roaming legends appear randomly in tall grass across the region. If you can fly from the area they will appear there! Suicune is only beast that can be found on Water. All birds can be found on Water.
- Use a Swarm/Illuminate ability mon as lead and high-level False Swipers such as Breloom with the Posion Heal Ability while holding a Toxic Orb. Ideal Moveset is False Swipe/Spore/Substitute/Mach Punch.
- Timer Balls are ideal for catching - Wait till Turn 10 for max catch rate.
